I have an international background, have travelled, lived and worked across much of the world. I call Europe and Australia “home” and feel a global citizen.
I was raised in England of English and Finnish parents, graduated in Business from University in the UK and completed Military Service in Finland. Post the Army I embarked on a 15 year career in the Financial Markets. I was in the pressurised business of ‘making money’ by running risk; trading derivatives for investment banks and specialist trading groups around the globe and worked in the City of London, Switzerland and Sydney.
During those years of trading I was bathed in stress on a daily basis, it was part of the job, it came with the territory, or so I thought. The truth is though that no matter how demanding one’s circumstances are, stress can be managed. Our resistance to change plays out as stress – increasing as things are not going easily or as we had planned. I coped with the demands of the job as best I could, using the tools I knew -mixing exercise and partying as my vents for ‘turning my mind off’.
A mixture of curiosity and the realisation that I needed ’something else’ lead me to meditation. After learning, my meditation practise instantly brought results which I felt and were recognised by those around me; I became calmer, had more energy, patience and greater perspective. Had I known earlier, it would have undoubtedly boosted my performance and given me greater clarity and energy throughout those taxing years.
Inspired to become a meditation teacher by the benefits that meditation brought, I trained under my teacher for one year, and I now maintain another link passing this knowledge on for others to enjoy.
These days, my wife Alexandra and I balance raising our three children, family life and our business interests. My focus is on the practical aspects of meditation – an everyday tool for living to one’s full potential, incorporating all of the demands that family, friends and careers bring. It is not a reclusive practise, my focus is for those who wish to welcome challenges, to live to one’s fullest and to become attuned to the opportunities that lie within change and adversity.
After spending 14 years in Sydney, where our 3 children, Holly, Harry and Finn were all born, we took the opportunity for a sabbatical year- teaching, travelling and home schooling the kids as we went across Asia, India and Europe before now basing ourselves in Malta in the Mediterranean.
As well as sharing the wisdom and benefits of meditation, I advise on transition, stress management, career and life coaching. Whether you feel demotivated, finding it hard to be inspired or feel depleted because you are flat out and running on an empty tank -I advocate learning to meditate.
I am available to teach from Malta and pan-Europe.
